2004 National Apraxia Parent Conference

The Hendrix Foundation and CASANA sponsored the first national apraxia parent conference, titled "Reach for the Stars", on July 15 - 17, 2004 at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The turnout was phenomenal and exceeded everyone's expectations.  Nearly 450 parents from 35 states and several provinces in Canada converged in Pittsburgh for three days of learning about childhood apraxia of speech, networking and making friendships with other parents.  It is our belief that this event marked the largest gathering ever of families affected by communication disorders.

Seventeen national experts and speakers dedicated their time to design special workshop sessions and keynotes so that parents could receive as much information as possible about all aspects of apraxia, across the lifespan.  In addition to over 20 conference sessions, parents also were treated to a lovely welcoming reception and special family dinner as additional opportunities to meet and network with other parents.

Apraxia-KIDSSM - the Internet's largest, most comprehensive and trusted website for information on childhood apraxia of speech (verbal dyspraxia, developmental apraxia of speech) and children's speech and language topics - including evaluation, speech therapy, research and other childhood communication topics. Invaluable for parents, speech language pathologists, teachers and all those who care about a child with apraxia.

This web site is a program of the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association, the national organization representing the needs and interests of children affected by apraxia of speech.
